How a residency works

Request a house

Browse the register and request the houses you'd love to paint, or hear from hosts who've seen your work and want to offer you dates. Either way, the stay is agreed between you; nothing is ever assigned.

A few quiet days

Stay free, paint the place, finish on-site or in studio. A framed edition goes to the host's wall. The original stays yours. Sell it through us whenever you like.

The wall works for you

We print, frame and ship guest sales from a print-ready file. Supply your own scan, or we can book a pro scan. Guests buy from the wall for as long as it hangs.

The terms of the trade

Plain ink, no small print.

  • The stay Free accommodation in houses worth £700–£3,500 a week. You cover travel and materials; the house, the bed and the view cost you nothing. Dates, house rules and what happens if plans change are agreed in writing. You arrange your own public liability cover.
  • The work One finished, signed work on paper per residency. A framed first edition (N° 01 of 75) hangs on the host's wall. The original stays with you. Supply a print-ready file, or we book a pro scan, before anything is printed.
  • The money 45% of print margin, paid monthly. 70% on original sales and commissions.
  • The reach Every guest who stays sees the work. The plaque carries your name and handle. Hosts share the piece because it hangs on their wall. A portfolio in front of people who buy landscape.
  • The rights Copyright stays with you. We take a reproduction licence for prints. You keep the original, the moral rights and portfolio use.
  • The handling Printing, framing and shipping of edition prints: ours. Payments and guest questions too. If the original sells, you ship it by insured courier; the buyer pays shipping at cost. Getting yourself and your kit to the house: yours.
Eligibility
  • Working artists in watercolour, gouache, ink, pastel or other media on paper
  • Finished works up to A2 (oils on canvas arrive in a later season)
  • A portfolio link · website or Instagram is fine
  • Able to travel within the UK (Europe follows)
  • Emerging and mid-career equally welcome · we vet on the work
